Good Morning Kingsmill,
We are grateful for the drier weather this week as our Team is working very hard to catch up – especially on the mowing of property edges. These areas are mowed with smaller more maneuverable machines set at a higher height of cut. Many of these areas are cool season fescue turf which would not survive at the normal lower height of cut of the primary roughs which are bermudagrass.
Why are we behind with mowing? We have received over 26″ of rain since July 21st. That is over half of the annual rainfall for our area falling all in one month. Combine that with staffing challenges and the grass quickly gets away from you. We have many unfilled positions in our Golf Course Maintenance Department. The unemployment benefits that are available have not encouraged the workforce to return. In many cases it has encouraged the opposite.
How can you help? We are hiring. If you know anyone looking for work, even one day a week please send them our way.
In the meantime we are reaching out to contractors to tackle some of the task in areas where we are behind. You will see an outside company mowing property edges this week. This is not ideal but we are doing everything possible to overcome the challenges.
Thank You and have a great day.
