Good morning,
We are beginning the day fresh off of 1/2″ of rain. The golf courses are very wet and we will be Cart Path Only. Our team is blowing off greens and repairing/raking bunkers.
Why does the golf course seem to be so wet this time of year? Look to Mother Nature, as cooler temperatures and dormant bermuda grass combine for a much slower evapotranspiration rate. Evapotranspiration is the process in which water evaporates from the soil and plants use transpiration. In Williamsburg, this rate is 17 times slower in the winter than summer according to the University of Virginia Climatology Office. Wow!
